First Round Results | Second Round Live Scoring
VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team stands in second place at the 2022 ASUN Championship after round one on Easter Sunday.
The team finished the first 18 holes at 2-under 286 and one of only two teams to card an under-par score.
Every player in the starting lineup placed in the top 15, including three in the top eight with junior
Bella Kil alone atop the leaderboard.
KSU trails only Golfstat's No. 48 North Florida by three strokes.
LEADING THE PARLIAMENT:
Kil leads the 55-player field with a 3-under 69 after Sunday's action. That mark is the fourth-lowest single-round score by an Owl in ASUN Championship history.
She shot a 4-under 32 on the back-nine including three birdies on the final four holes.
She tied for first in par-3 scoring with a 2.85 average. Her five birdies in the first round tied for second in the field.
Kil won the 2022 Pinetree Women's Collegiate individual medalist honor in March and was named to the ASUN All-Conference second team on Friday.
SCORECARD:
Alizee Vidal stands tied for second after a 2-under 70 scorecard. Her 3.80 par-4 scoring average is tied for second among participants.
Sophomore
Cameron Neilson carded a 1-over 73 and tied for 11th. Neilson tied for the tournament-lead in par-5 scoring average (4.50).
Both
Meva Schmit and
Lara Jecnik ended round one tied for 15th with 2-over 74 scores.
Schmit and Vidal tied for third in par-5 scoring average (4.75).
GOLF CART NOTES:
>> The Owls lead the field in par-5 scoring with a 4.85 scoring average.
>> KSU finished round one in second for par-3 (3.05) and par-4 (4.04) scoring.
>> The team's 15 birdies tied for the tournament lead.
THORNE'S THOUGHTS:
"I'm proud of the team for the start we've gotten off to," head coach
Erin Thorne said. "We played well enough to stay in it for the first day."
"I know we've got more birdies in us to get into that top spot by the end of the tournament," Thorne added.
NEXT TEE TIME:
The 2022 ASUN Women's Golf Championship rolls on Monday, Apr. 18 for round two action. The event concludes on Tuesday, Apr. 19.
