JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State softball team (12-25, 4-11 ASUN Conference) completed a three-game series against the North Florida Ospreys (35-11, 14-4 ASUN) in a 5-2 defeat Saturday afternoon.
UNF started the game with four runs in the opening frame but the home team struggled at the plate in the innings that followed.
Over the next 4.2 innings, starter
Melanie Bennett (9-13) allowed only two walks and retired 11 consecutive Osprey hitters.
Freshman catcher
Isabella Galloway kept runners out of scoring position in the second inning, catching two UNF runners stealing for back-to-back outs.
KSU got on the board in the top of the fifth off a sacrifice fly from
Brinaya Bailey that scored
Ty Hardeman, making it a 4-1 game.
North Florida added another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead.
With Hardeman on second in the top of the seventh,
Katie Greep singled up the middle to send her home and cut into the deficit, 5-2. The Owls did not plate any runs following the RBI single.
Bennett pitched all 6.0 innings was credited with the loss.

The Owls return home on Saturday, April 23 for the beginning of a three-game series against the FGCU Eagles. Fans are encouraged to wear gold and 'Gold Out Gulf Coast' during Saturday's doubleheader.
