KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball (21-10, 10-2 ASUN Conference) fell to No. 10 Georgia (25-8, 8-4 SEC) 17-15 during a slugfest on Tuesday night inside Stillwell Stadium.
The two squads combined for 81 at-bats, 29 hits, 17 walks and 15 different pitchers. The contest marked the highest-scoring game for KSU since 2018, when the team defeated Grambling State, 26-7.
Nine different Owls collected hits against the Bulldogs, with three going for two-or-more.
Josh Hatcher went 4-for-6 and collected his third consecutive game with three hits or more. The centerfielder extended his hit streak to 26 and his on-base streak to 30.
Tyler Simon posted a 2-for-5 night with two runs scored and two RBI. The senior tallied his 12th multi-hit game on the season.
Cash Young continued his hot streak and posted a 2-for-6 night. The third baseman tallied two RBI and scored one run in the contest.
Both teams tallied runs in every inning except the third and seventh, where both teams failed to cross home.
UGA jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame and posted a 5-0 lead before the Owls came to bat.
KSU responded in the bottom half of the first with a leadoff double from Hatcher followed by three consecutive walks to bring home the first run.
Simon scored via wild pitch on the next at-bat, then a groundout from Young scored
Zac Corbin.
Nick Colina was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to 5-4.
A solo homer by the Bulldogs in the top of the second increased their lead to two.
Young slashed an RBI double down the right field line to bring Kennesaw State within one.
UGA tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth to take an 8-5 lead.
The fourth began with leadoff singles from Hatcher and Simon. Cash ripped an RBI single to move the score to 8-6.
Wild pitches and a throwing error by the UGA catcher scored two to even the score at eight runs apiece.
The Bulldogs retook the lead, 9-8, with a solo shot in the top of the fifth.
The Black and Gold tied the game again in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from
Spencer Hanson.
UGA pulled back in front in the next half inning, 15-9.
Nick Hassan registered a pinch-hit single to shallow left that scored the 10th Owl run of the game. A sacrifice fly from Colina and an RBI single from Simon scored
Brayden Eidson and Hassan, respectively, to cut the UGA lead to 15-12.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 17-12 in the top of the eighth on a two-run homer.
Eidson scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error from UGA pulled Kennesaw State back within two, 17-15.
The Owl defense kept UGA off the scoreboard in the top of the ninth but the rally fell short of victory.
