Owls Drop Series Finale to Liberty

Box Score (PDF)

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Kennesaw State softball team (12-22, 4-8 ASUN Conference) fell 6-1 in game three against the Liberty Flames (28-12, 12-0 ASUN) Sunday afternoon.

The Flames scored in their half of the first inning, jumping out to a 1-0 lead. KSU and starter Melanie Bennett limited the damage in the frame, not allowing a run after Liberty placed two runners in scoring position with no outs.

The deficit increased to 3-0 after Liberty added two more in the second and then 4-0 after another run in the fourth.

KSU finally broke through in the top half of the fifth after Kiera Cooper doubled to left and then came across home off a fielder's choice by Ty Hardeman.

Liberty pushed its lead to 6-1 after scoring two on a fielding error in the bottom of the sixth. The Black and Gold did not plate any runs in the seventh.

Bennett (9-10) pitched 6.0 innings for the second consecutive game and was credited with the loss.
