FRANKLIN, Tenn. –
Lucas Mota paced the Kennesaw State men's golf team during round one of the Mason Rudolph Invitational at the Vanderbilt Legends Course on Friday.

"We had a respectable team round going through 11-12 holes today around even par and lost momentum down the stretch," head coach Bryant Odom said. "The back nine is the most scorable side and we didn't take advantage of the par 5s as we played them +3 overall. Everyone is playing well we have a chance to get a solid round tomorrow.

The Owls carded a 12-over par total of 296 and sit in 15th place in a very strong field. KSU is fifth in the field with a 3.08 scoring average on par 3's.

Mota posted a 1-over par 72 with 15 pars and a birdie in the opening round. His 15 pars are tied for second-most in the field.

Brock Healy carded a 3-over 74 with three birdies and is tied for 63rd.

Justin Kim and Joseph Byrne fired 4-over par rounds of 75 and are tied for 70th.

Luke Phillips recorded a 5-over 76 and is tied for 74th.

The Owls will continue play at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Saturday, April 2. KSU will be paired with Memphis and West Virginia and tee off from 10:35-11:15 ET.
