KSU Hits the Road for Three Spring Break Matches

KENNESAW, Ga. – No. 69 Kennesaw State women's tennis is on the road for a three-game spring break trip. The team will look to continue its record-breaking start over the next week.
 
Match 9: No. 69 Kennesaw State (8-0) at Western Carolina (8-3)

Hot Start
The Kennesaw State women's tennis team is off to its best start in the program's history. The team's 8-0 record marks the best start since the 2011 season when the Owls won seven consecutive games to start the year.

Owls Soar in the Polls
KSU is currently 69th in the Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis computer rankings and are the highest ranked ASUN Conference member. The ranking marked the first time the Owls have been inside the top 75 published poll in school history and sets a new personal-best under Director of Tennis Matt Emery. Upon his arrival in 2018, the program ranked 298 out of 304 Division 1 programs.

Road Dominance
The Owls have been dominant on the road, tallying seven victories away from campus to start the year. Its seven road wins in 2022 ties the previous record set in the 2013 season. KSU will look to break another program record as they are on the road for all three matches this week.

Scouting Western Carolina
Western Carolina started the month of March off strong and has won its last three matches. The last time out, the Catamount's defeated North Carolina Central 4-0 to mark their second shut -out of the season.

Scouting Old Dominion
Old Dominion is ranked 24th in the Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis computer rankings. The Monarchs have won five of their last six matches, last defeating Harvard 7-0.

Scouting Wingate University
Wingate is off to a 3-1 start to their season. The last time out, they picked up the victory over Tusculum by a score of 7-0.

The Series
Tuesday's match between Kennesaw State and Western Carolina will be the fifth meeting between the two programs. The series is even at two wins apiece, with the Catamounts last defeating KSU 6-1 during the 2019 season.
Thursday's match between 69th ranked Kennesaw State and 24th ranked Old Dominion will be the first meeting between the two programs.
Sunday's match between Kennesaw State and Wingate University will also be the first scheduled meeting between the two programs.

The Last Time Out
KSU women's tennis defeated UAB 5-2. The Owls picked up the doubles point and won four singles matches to clinch the victory over the Blazers. The next day, KSU defended home court and defeated Florida A&M 6-1 to win its eighth straight match, and set the program's record for best start to a season.

Next Up
KSU begins ASUN conference play as it hosts Liberty on Friday, Mar. 18. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Betty Siegel Courts.
