Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. – No. 69 Kennesaw State women's tennis made history with a 6-1 win over Florida A&M on Sunday afternoon. The Owls won their eighth straight match and marked the first time in program history the team started a season 8-0. The previous record was set in 2011, when KSU won seven consecutive matches to begin the year.

"We've been on the road for seven straight matches, and it was nice to finally be back at home and go for the program record," said KSU assistant coach Kirsten Lewis. "I am proud of these ladies for keeping it simple and staying focused throughout after a hard-fought match yesterday."

The Owls set another program record earlier in the week, when the squad was ranked inside the top 75 of the Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis computer rankings for the first time in school history. The team is currently ranked No. 69 and has climbed 229 spots in the polls since KSU Director of Tennis Matt Emery took over in 2018.

The Record-Breaking Win
The Owls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles play. The team secured the point for the second consecutive match and seventh time in eight attempts this season. Sofia Pinedo and Sophia Unger earned a quick 6-1 victory from court three to give KSU the early advantage. Valentina Taddia and Ji Youn Lee sealed the point with a dominate 6-2 win on court two. Kat Muzik and Taylor Dean were up 5-2 on court one, but the match went unfinished due to the Owls securing the point.

KSU women's tennis never flinched as the match rolled into singles play. Lee was the first to earn a point as the senior defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Taddia and Unger followed suit, with each player earning victories in two sets. Pinedo clinched the new program record from court six when she defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2.

Muzik earned the final KSU point on the day in a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 match. The graduate student has won six of her eight contests this season, all from court one.
