Box Score (PDF)

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kennesaw State softball team (6-12) ended the Razorback Rumble with a 7-1 rout of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Roos (4-14) Sunday.

Both offenses were stymied through the first two scoreless innings with only five hits between them.

After keeping the Roos scoreless in the top of the third, the Owl bats took flight in the bottom of the inning.

Leadoff singles by Ty Hardeman and Madison Miller got the offense going and then Faith Alexander reached on a fielder's choice to score Hardeman and put KSU ahead 1-0.

Katie Greep followed that by advancing on a defensive error by the Roos to score Miller and get push the Owls ahead 2-0.

A single from Brinaya Bailey and another UMKC error plated two more runs for the Black and Gold and extended the lead to 4-0. That lead increased to 6-0 after Hardeman hit a two-RBI double in her second at-bat of the inning.

UMKC finally posted a run in the top of the fourth to cut the Owl lead to 6-1.

Alexander's second hit of the game once again scored Hardeman to drive the score up to 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth. The Owl defense held the Roo offense scoreless in the remaining innings.

Melanie Bennett (4-6) was credited with the win after pitching 7.0 innings with only one earned run and seven strikeouts. She is 2-0 against UMKC this season.
