KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball used a six-run inning to pull away and defeat North Florida 10-6 on Friday night inside Stillwell Stadium. The Owls (14-7) improved to 4-0 in ASUN Conference play for the first time in program history.
"I think this win shows the effort and determination this team gives," said head coach
Ryan Coe. "They find a way to piece together at-bats and hits to get the win."
Jack Myers (1-1) made his sixth start and earned his first win as an Owl. The right-hander tied a season long with six innings pitched and struck out five.
"We were thinner on pitching tonight since we had to use a lot of arms on Wednesday to finish that game off," said Coe. "It was a huge effort from Myers but that's not surprising from him. He has a competitive mentality and that is why we have him pitching on Fridays."
For the second consecutive game, the KSU offense had all nine starters reach base safely. The Owls slashed 12 hits with five going for extra bases against the Ospreys (9-14). KSU also scored 10+ runs for the second game in-a-row.
Zac Corbin posted a career-high with three hits in the contest. The sophomore finished 3-for-4 and registered his eighth multi-hit game on the year. Corbin also scored three runs on the evening.
Spencer Hanson and
Brayden Eidson provided a spark at the bottom of the KSU order. Hanson drove in two runs and added a 2-for-4 performance. The outfielder has reached base safely in three straight.
Eidson also contributed a 2-for-4 night with one run scored and one RBI. The outfielder has posted back-to-back games with a hit, RBI and run scored. Â
Josh Hatcher extended his hit streak to 16 games with a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth. With the base knock, the KSU centerfielder also pushed his on-base streak to 20-straight. Hatcher finished the game 1-for-4 with a run scored.
The Owls' offense scored six runs in the sixth to break the game open. KSU ripped five hits and stole three bases during the frame. Kennesaw State has now posted back-to-back outings with six runs scored in a single inning.
KSU led 8-4 going into the bottom of the eighth.
Donovan Cash ripped a two-out double to right field that brought in two to extend the lead to 10-4. Cash finished the night 3-for-5 and led the Owls with three RBI.
"Winning on Friday night is important. It sets the whole tone for the weekend," said Coe. "It gives you the chance to relax a little bit and just go out there and play."
