KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team secured victory at the 2022 Pinetree Women's Collegiate presented by Hennsler Financial on Tuesday, the second tournament victory for the Owls this season.
The Owls completed the three-round event with an eight-stroke lead on second-place Xavier. The team finished 18 strokes ahead of Golfstat's No. 58 East Tennessee State.
KSU was the only team in the field to not have a player in the starting five post a score higher than 79.
ON THE PODIUM:
Bella Kil went wire-to-wire across the two days, finishing with a 2-under par 214 score for the tournament. She carded a team-low 2-over 74 on Tuesday.
The victory marked the first top placement of Kil's KSU career. She finished tied for second in par-4 scoring (4.10), second in par-5 scoring (4.58) and tied for third in par-3 scoring (3.00).
Her 39 pars tied for second-most in the event.
Kil becomes the second Owl to win an individual medal this season, following
Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman at the Rio Verde Invitational.
SCORECARD:
Tori Owens continued her dominant performance at Pinetree Tuesday, carding a 4-over 76 and finished alone at fifth with a 3-over 219 for the event.
Owens finished third in par-5 scoring (4.67). She tied for second in total birdies (10).
Alizee Vidal posted a 7-over 79 score in round three. She finished at 9-over 225 and tied for 12th.
Tied for 21st with a 13-over 229 was
Meva Schmit. Schmit tallied a 5-over 77 on the final 18.
Cameron Neilson and
Lara Jecnik both tied for 25th at the home tournament with 15-over 231 scores. Neilson carded a 6-over 78 while Jecnik posted a 5-over 77 in the third round.
Campbell-Nyman carded an 85 on Tuesday, adding to a total of 241 for the tournament.
GOLF CART NOTES:
>> Coach
Erin Thorne became the first head coach in the history of the program to have multiple tournament victories in their first season.
>> The Owls lead the field in par-5 (4.88 average) scoring. The squad's par-4 scoring average (4.29) was tied for first with second-place finalist Xavier.
>> The Black and Gold paced all teams in birdies (36) and pars (167).
THORNE'S THOUGHTS:
"I'm really proud of this team to capture a second win this semester," Thorne said. "The course became very challenging for this final round with the wind plus firm and fast conditions."
"I'm excited for Bella to capture medalist honors," Thorne added.
NEXT TEE TIME:
The Owls conclude the 2021-2022 regular season at The Brickyard Collegiate on Monday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 5 in Macon, Ga.
The 2022 ASUN Women's Golf Championship begins on Easter Sunday, April 17 through Tuesday, April 19.
