KENNESAW, Ga. – Georgia Tech used a big seventh inning to break the game open and defeat Kennesaw State 13-2 on Tuesday night. The Owls (12-7) aim to get back in the win column tomorrow as they head to Atlanta for game two against the Yellow Jackets (16-5).

Freshman starting pitcher
Smith Pinson impressed again, as the right-hander tossed three scoreless innings in his first career start against a Power Five opponent. Pinson retired nine-of-11 batters faced and punched out six.
Josh Hatcher extended his hit streak to 14 with an RBI double in the third. The centerfielder finished the game 1-for-3 and pushed his on-base streak to 18. Hatcher currently leads the Owls' offense in batting average, total hits, and doubles.
Shortstop
Tyler Simon singled in the sixth inning for his 198th career hit. The senior went 1-for-3 and is two shy of becoming the eighth player in KSU history to reach the 200-hit mark. Tonight's game was Simon's 190th wearing the black and gold.
Tyler Franks registered his first career hit in the seventh inning. The freshman ripped an RBI double to left-center field to drive in the Owls' second run of the day. Franks finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Â
Kennesaw State struck first on the Hatcher RBI double in the third. The Yellow Jackets stung back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Tech led by four entering the seventh and compiled nine runs to break the ballgame open.
The Owls and Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow as the teams battle it out inside Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted on the ACC Network.
