KSU Scores in the Ninth to Down Jacksonville, 4-3

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State baseball scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning to claim a 4-3 victory at Jacksonville and improved the team's ASUN Conference record to 2-0 on the year. With the win, the Owls (11-6) claim the series and aim for the sweep tomorrow against the Dolphins (11-7).

In a game that saw limited offense, Kennesaw State was able to get the leadoff man on base to start the top of the ninth. Great baserunning and fundamental hitting moved the runner to third with two outs in the final frame.

With an 0-2 count, the Dolphins pitcher delivered a pitch that skipped away from his catcher and allowed Nick Hassan to waltz home for the go-ahead run. The wild pitch proved to be costly for JU, as Nathan Holler slammed the door in the ninth to give KSU a one-run win.

Holler entered the game in the seventh and tossed 2.2 scoreless innings. The reliever struck out three en route to his third win of the year.

John Bezdicek made his fifth start in tonight's game and did not allow a hit through the first four frames. The southpaw matched his season-high of six innings pitched but earned a no-decision in the contest. Bezdicek finished with four strikeouts and surrendered three hits.

Donovan Cash enjoyed a career milestone as he recorded the first home run of his collegiate career. The sophomore went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Cash has recorded hits in 13 of his 15 starts on the season.

Josh Hatcher extended the hit streak to 12 with a base knock during his third plate appearance. The centerfielder finished 1-for-3 with a hit by pitch and has posted six hits in his last eight at-bats.

Kennesaw State struck first in the top of the second inning. Zac Corbin led off with a line drive up the middle and was brought home when Cash ripped a two-run bomb. The Owls added to the score when Hassan crossed the plate on a Spencer Hanson sac fly.

Jacksonville tied the game at three when its first baseman belted a two-run home run in the sixth inning. The KSU pitching staff would hold the Dolphins to only one hit for the remainder of the game.

The Black and Gold are back in action tomorrow as they go for the series sweep over the Dolphins. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. inside John Sessions Stadium.
