KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team collected a 6-1 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday on the Betty Siegel Courts.
With the win, KSU (5-3) moved to 2-0 against teams from Tennessee at home this season. The Owls defeated Chattanooga on Friday, Feb. 18.
"We were proud of the way the guys responded to yesterday's tough loss," assistant coach
Simon Pritchard said. "After losing 4-3 to TTU last year it felt great to get the win today."
KSU won the doubles point and picked up five singles wins to clinch the victory.
The Owls won the doubles point picking up wins on courts two and three.
Seru Tezuka and
Daniel Botti edged past Jun Sasagawa and Rafael Tosetto 7-5 on court three.
Matthew Terry and
Hugo Salmeron downed Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the point.
Salmeron extended the KSU lead to 2-0 when his opponent retired with Salmeron leading 3-1 in the first set.
Harvey Conway secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Evzen Hollis on court three to push the KSU lead to 3-0. Terry clinched the win for the Owls with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Grubert on court one. Botti needed three sets but defeated Sasagawa 4-6, 6-4, 10-1 to pick up his first collegiate victory.
Raul Garcia closed the match with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win over Berghaus on court two.
The Owls will host Furman on Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. for Youth Tennis Day.
