Owls Perched in Second Place After First Day of ASUN Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Kennesaw State men's and women's track and field teams sit in second place after day one of the ASUN Indoor Championships on Friday.

Men's Heptathlon (Through four events)
  • Jordan Fick is fourth place with 2740 points
  • Fick posted personal-best performances in the long jump, shot put and high jump on Friday.
  • Quann Shears is in sixth with 2604 points.
  • Ian Jackson sits in eighth with 2490 points. 
 
Women's Pentathlon (Completed)
  • Kywana Donahoo finished fourth scoring a career-best 3468 points.
  • She finished the pentathlon with personal-best performances in four events.
  • Kyarra Newton placed fifth with 3413 points while Cadence Huntsinger (2757 points) took home 12th.
 
School Record Performances 
  • Jada Smith cleared a personal-best height of 3.97m (13'0.25") to win the women's pole vault.
  • That mark also set an ASUN Indoor Championship record.
  • The women's distance medley relay team of Natalie Cummings, Jayla Mobley, Madigan Wallace and Sarah Hendrick ran a time of 11:44.73 to take second.
  • Sarah Hendrick posted a time of 55.06 seconds in the 400m trials to secure a win and a spot in Saturday's final.
  • Koi Williams advanced to the finals of the 800m with a career-best time of 1:51.60 in the 800m trial finishing fifth.
 
 
Men's Medal Winners
  • Tyler Blalock landed a toss of 19.01m (62'4") and Zachary Peterson added a mark of 18.58m (60'11") to secure the silver and bronze medals in the weight throw.
  • Kaelen Mitchell brought home the bronze with a mark of 7.26m (23'10") in the long jump.
  • Sultan Simms secured the bronze medal in the high jump clearing 2.07m (6"9.5").
 
 
Women's Medal Winners
  • Jasmine Akins landed a jump of 6.37m (20'10.75") to win the long jump and set a facility record.
  • Javon Joyner had a toss of 19.06m (62'6") and Kali Terza added a mark of 17.57m (57'8") to grab the silver and bronze medals in the weight throw.
 
 
Men's Running Event Qualifiers
  • Isaiah Ellis clocked in at 8.22 seconds in the 60m hurdles trial to advance to the finals.
  • Sparticus Griffin opened in 48.88 seconds in the 400m trial to move on.
  • Cameron Paulk posted a career-best time of 1:52.56 in the 800m trial.
  • Omar Diaz (21.46 seconds), Xavier Paris (21.55 seconds) and Malik Hussie (21.72 seconds) all advanced out of the 200m trial taking third, fourth and sixth.
 
Women's Running Event Qualifiers
  • Hendrick took second in the mile run trial with a time of 4:54.28.
  • Olivia Brown (8.49 seconds), Corbin McLean (8.51 seconds) and Kywana Donahoo (8.89 seconds) posted qualifying times in the 60m hurdles trial.
  • Imani Christian ran 56.89 seconds to take seventh in the 400m trial.
  • McLean would return to the track and post times of 7.68 seconds and 24.54 seconds to advance to the finals in the 60m and 200m.
  • Natalie Cummings cruised to a time of 2:14.68 to grab second in the 800m trial.

"This team started hot and kept rolling all day. Huge shoutout to the new school record holders and individual ASUN champions. We have some work to do tomorrow but I could not be more confident in this team's ability to show up and perform when it matters most. Day two for the Owls should be exciting stuff."
