Game Notes
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team celebrates Senior Day 30 minutes before a Saturday afternoon tipoff against the Liberty Flames, the Owls' final game of the regular season before the ASUN Conference Tournament.
Ashley Free,
Jah'Che Whitfield,
Amani Johnson and
Alexis Poole will be honored in a pregame ceremony at center-court.
IRON WOMAN
Johnson is no stranger to either nicknames or breaking records; in breaking another record Thursday night against the Stetson Hatters, she may have earned herself another nickname.
The point guard colloquially known as "Agent Zero" and the "Red Tornado" may now be referred to as "Iron Woman" after breaking the Kennesaw State Division I record for most career minutes played.
In her 37th minute of play in the Owls' last game, Johnson passed Kristina Wells at the top of the list and now sits on 3,981 minutes.
The Pennsylvanian places third in the NCAA rankings for minutes played per game this season, averaging 38.22 a contest.
Her newly-acquired record wasn't the only noteworthy feature to Johnson's game against the DeLand, Fla. team, as she also netted a season-high 25 points.
FINISHING WITH HEART
Kennesaw State made it another close game late on against Stetson, cutting a deficit to seven points in the fourth quarter after being down 22 at one point.
The Owls have overcome obstacles when the odds were stacked against them this season, whether it be an overtime win against Furman or a late comeback against North Florida.
Outscoring the Hatters 24-20 in the fourth quarter, the fourth quarter has statistically been the best offensive period for the Owls this season.
SCOUTING LIBERTY
The Flames aren't just the best defensive squad in the ASUN, they're one of the best defensive squads in the nation. They allow the second-lowest field-goal percentage in Division I women's basketball, keeping opponents to just 33.1 percent shots made.
Mya Berkman has been a formidable force for the Flames, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. The Texan is one of the most efficient shooters in the nation, as her 67-percent success rate from the field is the second-best around.
While the Flames' defensive acumen steals the headlines, they are by no means a one-dimensional team. The Lynchburg, Va. outfit is also highly successful in ball movement and crashing the boards, ranking top 20 in Division I in assists and rebounds.
NEXT GAME
Kennesaw State awaits the results of the final regular-season games across the league, as the consequences of those outcomes will tell the Owls where they will be traveling for the first round of the ASUN Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
