Game Notes
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team hopes to return to winning ways against ranked opponent No. 22 FGCU, as the Owls are coming off of one of their most successful spells of the season.
The squad's three-game winning streak came to an end in the Convocation Center on Monday, losing 51-56 to Jacksonville after being up by 15 points in the first half.
MS. 1K
With
Amani Johnson swishing her 1,000th point on Nov. 11 against Georgia Tech,
Jah'Che Whitfield followed in her teammate's footsteps and became the third-active Owl with 1,000 career points Monday evening against Jacksonville.
The redshirt senior began her KSU career last year as a transfer from Winthrop, from where she brought a wealth of experience and 588 points.
The guard from Sumter, S.C. has been electric in her short time as an Owl, accumulating 418 points in Kennesaw State colors and making plays on both sides of the ball.Â
AMANI'S FEBRUARY
Johnson has had a February to remember, as the reigning ASUN Player of the Week has not logged a game with less than 10 points since the month began.
Against Jacksonville, KSU's no. 0 led the team in points (12), rebounds (seven), assists (four) and tied the lead in steals with three.
The Pennsylvanian continues to lead the league in assists per game with 4.9, and is also a top-10 scorer and ball-stealer this season.
SCOUTING FGCU
One of the best teams the ASUN has to offer, FGCU's 33-game winning streak against conference opponents ended last Saturday, Feb. 12 with a 58-55 loss to the Stetson Hatters. The game was an anomaly of an Eagle performance from beyond the arc, shooting seven-of-44 for a 15.9 3-point percentage.
Head coach Karl Smesko has been without phenom Kierstan Bell for roughly a month. However, Bell isn't the only superstar that FGCU has to offer, with point guard TK Morehouse being the most prolific contributor in Bell's absence. Since Bell's last game on Jan. 15, Morehouse has only failed to notch double digits once and reached a season-high tally of 33 points in a win against Eastern Kentucky.
