The Kennesaw State women's basketball team's annual Pink Day is here, with the Owls facing off against North Florida on Saturday afternoon during the celebration in the Convocation Center.
The Owls have strung together their first back-to-back wins of the conference campaign, beating Central Arkansas 66-52 in the team's biggest margin of victory against an ASUN opponent on Wednesday.
MS. BUCKETS
With a 16-point tally against the Sugar Bears last game, Alexis Poole shattered Deandrea Sawyers' previous career Division I point total for a KSU player.
Now sitting at 1,393 total points, the Ellenwood, Ga. native still has six games on the season to continue cementing her legacy.
The senior also hopes to better her previous performance against North Florida this season, logging three points and four boards.
THE PRESS IS COMING
The press, which head coach Octavia Blue has implemented all season long, was as fruitful as it's ever been against Central Arkansas.
The Sugar Bears turned the ball over 21 times, the most by a Kennesaw State opponent in conference play this season.
Amani Johnson and Prencis Harden were a part of the group making so many great reads, with both of them registering three steals each.
SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA
This is the Owls' first rematch of the season so far, losing to North Florida less than a month ago on Jan. 19 in a 49-66 effort. Fifth-year guard Rhetta Moore was running the show for the Ospreys, scoring her most points in UNF's conference campaign with 22 points. Moore shot five-for-nine from the perimeter, also racking up four rebounds and three assists.
The Ospreys' Jazz Bond is one of the best defensive players the ASUN Conference has ever seen; however, the six-foot-four forward does not display a one-dimensional profile. Bond is a top-100 scorer in the nation at 16.2 points per game, the second-best rebounder in the league, and North Florida's most prolific shot blocker. The Tennessean's 57 blocks this season are the 11th-most in NCAA Division I women's basketball this season.
Darrick Gibbs' squad was selected to finish second in the conference by the ASUN's coaches, but the Ospreys have found it difficult to string wins together. The stat sheet shows that North Florida has struggled to keep fouling and turnover numbers down, which may be the reason the program has had a hard time finding a foothold in their conference campaign.
NEXT GAME
The Owls welcome fans to the Convocation Center on Valentine's Day this-coming Monday, Feb. 14 for a 5:30 faceoff against the Jacksonville Dolphins.
