KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Director of Tennis Matt Emery has announced the women's tennis slate for the 2023 season with 19 spring matches on the schedule.
A total of 11 will be played on the road, while eight will be held on campus at the Betty Siegel Courts at Kennesaw State.
The Owls open the spring season at home for the first time since 2009 with a match against in-state foe, Mercer, on Jan. 16. KSU is 7-5 all-time versus the Bears, including last year's 4-3 win in Macon.
The team then hits the road for a three-game stretch at Alabama State (Jan. 21), Ole Miss (Jan. 24) and Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 25). The Owls hold an 8-1 record in the series with Alabama State and are set for first-time matchups with both Ole Miss and Mississippi Valley State.
Kennesaw State returns home to welcome UAB on Feb. 5 at the Betty Siegel Courts. Last season, KSU scored its first-ever win over the Blazers with a dominant 5-2 victory in Birmingham.
Women's tennis then heads east for a quick road trip in South Carolina with contests at College of Charleston and Charleston Southern. The Owls and Cougars have not met on the courts before and are prepared to compete on Feb. 17. In its series with the Bucs, KSU is 0-1 and aims for its first win on Feb. 19.
Kennesaw State returns home on Feb. 26 when it will host South Carolina State for the first time in school history. The two teams have competed only once thus far, with the Owls earning a 4-3 win in 2013.
KSU remains at home on Feb. 28 when it battles its highway rival, the Georgia State Panthers. Last year, the Owls earned a come-from-behind victory with a 4-3 thriller in Atlanta. Kennesaw State aims to extend its win-streak to three-in-a-row over the Panthers.
The Owls hit the road for a four-game stretch with their final two-nonconference games followed by the first two ASUN Conference matches of 2023. The team travels to Florida for contests at FAU (Mar. 9) and FIU (Mar. 10).
ASUN play begins with Kennesaw State making a trip to Liberty on Mar. 17. The team then travels to Charlotte to battle against conference newcomer, Queens (Mar. 19).
Upon returning, the women's tennis team will host UNF (Mar. 23) and Stetson (Mar. 26) for their first home conference matches of the season.
The team then travels to Alabama to face North Alabama (Mar. 31) and ASUN rival, Jacksonville State (Apr. 2) for its final road matches.
KSU finishes its conference slate at home with ASUN matches against Bellarmine (Apr. 6) and Eastern Kentucky (Apr. 8).
The 2023 ASUN Conference Tournament will be played on Apr. 15-16 and Apr. 21-22. The first round and quarterfinals will be played at campus sites of the top four seeds on Apr. 15-16. North Florida will host the semifinals on Apr. 21 and the final on Apr. 22.
