The Kennesaw State baseball team is honored to award freshman catcher, Aaron Posey, with the Chris Halliday Scholarship for the 2022-23 season. The scholarship is given to a current KSU catcher that embodies the same qualities and skills possessed by the KSU Hall of Famer.
Halliday was a member of the 1996 NCAA Division II National Championship team and was named World Series MVP after going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, one run scored and was a single shy of the cycle. The junior had a strong season behind the plate, hitting .354 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs.
On Sept. 18, 2020, "Doc" tragically passed away. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his son, Patrick, and his daughter, Camryn. Through this scholarship, Chris' family, friends and teammates are able to recognize and honor the impact that he had on all of those around him.
"Chris was a great a player at Kennesaw State but an even better person. He played with passion and had an extreme love for the game. I feel it is important for our young players to understand the great players that came before them. The artwork of Chris that was given during the 2021 KSU Hall of Fame ceremony by his teammates was placed immediately as you walk in the locker room to serve as a reminder of what it means to be an Owl."
- Kennesaw State baseball head coach Ryan Coe
"It is so heartwarming for Chris' former teammates to want to honor him and for KSU to offer this scholarship opportunity for his legacy to continue. Chris sure did love the game of baseball and the people it brought into his life. Some of our best memories were here together at KSU. Coach Mike Sansing and his teammates became some of his lifelong friends. Chris' baseball experiences in high school and college are what he wanted so much for his own children and the others he coached to have as well. His desire to teach the game the way it should be played and share his passion to win was something many admired about him. He played and coached with such passion and deep love of the game, so to now have this scholarship available in his honor to provide this opportunity to a future Owl is priceless."
