SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team began play at the Carolina Cup on Sunday at the Country Club of Carolina.

"Great round today by Hugo leading us with a 68," head coach Bryant Odom said. " I am proud of Shaun for fighting back and turning in a 73 after some adversity early in the round. As a team, we must find ways to create and keep momentum during the round so we can lower the scores in the back of the lineup."

The Owls carded a 10-over par round of 298 in round one. Mercer leads the 14-team field at 6-under par 282.

Hugo Lari continued his strong play of late with a 4-under par round of 68. Lari rolled in five birdies and 12 pars during his round and is tied for fifth.

Freshman Sean Cook overcame a slow start and made three birdies over his final nine holes to sign for a 1-over round of 73. Cook is tied for 26th.

Claes Borregaard posted a 6-over 78 while Evan Thompson carded a 7-over 79.  Thompson eagled his final hole of the day. Borregaard is tied 63rd while Thompson is tied for 68th.

Rylan Black recorded an 81 in his KSU debut and is tied for 79th.

KSU will play in round two of the Carolina Cup on Monday, Oct. 10. The Owls will be paired with Lipscomb and UAB and tee off from 9:48 to 10:24 a.m.
