BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team carded an even par final round for a second-place finish at the Olde Stone Intercollegiate Tuesday.
This marks the end of fall portion of the 2022-23 campaign, the second season under head coach Erin Thorne.
Under Thorne, the Owls finished top two in three of their four fall events.
The placement tied the program record with the Owls' seventh consecutive top four finish dating back to the 2021-22 season. The team's record of most consecutive top-four finishes to start a season was also extended – now out to four-straight.
The Owls finished the two-day, three-round event with a 19-over 883 overall score to score three strokes better than co-host Louisville.
KSU also finished ahead of Indiana, Notre Dame and Cincinnati.
LEADING THE TEAM:
Cameron Neilson led the Owls after scoring a 4-under 68 in round three to finish tied for third. Her 11 birdies finished tied for third-most in the tournament and most on the team.
Neilson tied the tournament lead in par-3 scoring (2.83 average) and led the Owls with a 3.97 par-4 scoring average – tied for third among event participants.
SCORECARD:
Lara Jecnik shot 1-over-73 on the final day at The Club at Olde Stone. Her 4.83 par-5 scoring average tied for third on the course.
Meva Schmit carded 3-over 75 in the third round. Schmit's 4.83 average in par 5s tied for fourth on the field.
Jecnick and Schmit ended the event at 6-over 222 and tied for 10th.
Bella Kil posted a 1-over 73 scorecard in round three, ending with an 8-over 224 score on the course. She finished tied for 17th. Kil's 32 pars led the team.
Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman shot 17-over 223 at the two-day event after finishing strong with a 2-over 74 card on Tuesday.
GOLF CART NOTES:
>> The Owls finished with the most eagles (2) on the course.
>> KSU had the second most birdies in the tournament with 44.
>> The team's par-4 scoring average was second in the event (4.13).
>> The Owls' 3.17 par-3 scoring finished third in the field.
NEXT TEE TIME:
Kennesaw State returns to the course on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Boca Raton, Fla. in the FAU Paradise Invitational hosted by Florida Atlantic to open the spring 2023 season.
