SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team stands tied for fifth in The Southern tournament at The Savannah Golf Club after round one Monday.
The Owls shot 304 through the first 18 holes and tied with fellow ASUN Conference member North Florida. KSU stands nine strokes ahead of Jacksonville State.
KSU landed 14 birdies in round one, the most of any team in the field.
LEADING THE TEAM:
Meva Schmit led the Owls with a 3-over 75 scorecard on day one at and is tied for 13th.
Her 4.5 par-5 scoring is tied for second in the tournament.
SCORECARD:
Bella Kil finished 4-over 76 after posting three birdies on the day. Her 2.75 par-3 scoring gives her the sixth-most on the field.
Cameron Neilson also shot 4-over 76 with an eagle on the 12th hole. She was one of only three to post an eagle in the 61-player field.
Kil and Neilson both tied for 20th overall Monday.
Lara Jecnik posted a 77 scorecard after scoring five birdies, which leads the team is the tied for second in the tournament.
Individual participant Tori Owens totaled 78 on the day.
Owens and Kil tied for second in par-3 scoring with a 2.75 average.
Freshman Nyah Kelly shot 80 on Monday, also playing in the event as an individual.
Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman shot an 88 in round one.
NEXT TEE TIME:
Campbell-Nyman will tee off at 8:30 a.m. to get the Owls started in round two of The Southern.
