KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team is in fifth place after the first two rounds of the Pinetree Intercollegiate which was played at Pinetree Country Club on Monday.
"Pinetree was a real test today with gusty winds and fast greens," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We lost some shots with unforced errors and struggled each round coming in. We are still in position to make a run at the top three tomorrow."
The Owls carded rounds of 3-over par 292 and 11-over par 299 for a two-round total of 14-over par 590.
Claes Borregaard paced the Owls through the opening 36 holes on Monday. The sophomore is tied for third after he fired rounds of 72-69 for a 3-under par total of 141. He made seven birdies and 22 pars and played the Par 5s at 6-under par on Monday.
"Claes had a very consistent day leading us and finds himself in contention for the medalist battle," Odom added.
Shaun Cook posted rounds of 72-76 and is tied for 19
th at 4-over par 148. The freshman leads the field with 30 pars through two rounds.
Hugo Lari is tied for 28
th after he carded rounds of 74-76 for a 6-over par 150. Lari closed his day making seven pars over his final nine holes.
Yuya Eguchi recorded rounds of 73-79 and is tied for 35
th at 8-over par 152.
Evan Thompson (159) is tied for 53
rd.
Lucas Mota shot a 6-over par 150 and is tied for 28th to lead a group of three Owls who are competing as individuals.
Josh Ledford is tied for 46
th at 12-over par 156 while
Rylan Black is tied for 51
st at 14-over par 158.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. All the action can be followed live online at www.golfstat.com. Play gets underway at 9 a.m. with the Owls set to tee off on the first hole from 9 to 9:40 a.m.
