SPARTANBURG, SC. – The Kennesaw State men's team opened the 2022 season with a 6-1 victory over Wofford on Friday at the Reeves Tennis Center.
 
"Today was a good start to the season," Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "I thought we competed great at every spot in singles and doubles. When we do that, we are a difficult team to beat. I know the boys are hungry to get back after it again tomorrow against Presbyterian."
 
The Owls got on the board first in doubles with victories on courts two and three. Harvey Conway and Seru Tezuka picked up a 7-6 (7-5) win on court two. After a Terrier win, Hugo Salmeron and Raul Garcia clinched the point holding off Robert Young and Mark Endler 7-6 (7-5).
 
Matthew Terry pushed the Owls to a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ashe Ray. Garcia followed Terry with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mark Endler on court two. Tezuka clinched the KSU win defeating Alex Horn 6-1, 6-2 on court five. Conway got past Young 6-2, 6-4, while Salmeron downed Bryce Keim 7-6, 6-2 to pick up his first collegiate win and round out the scoring for the Owls.
 
The win marks the Owls first victory in a season opener since Feb. 3, 2019 when they defeated UCONN. The Owls will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15 when they matchup with Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C. First serve will be at 2 p.m. on the Templeton Tennis Courts.
