The Kennesaw State women's basketball team welcomes back the Owls with Student Appreciation Night on Wednesday in the Convocation Center; the first 250 students can claim a free slice of pizza at the concession stand.
The Owls welcome ASUN powerhouse FGCU for their first home game of the new year, hoping to best the Eagles for the first time in over ten years.
SAME OLD AMANI
Amani Johnson has done everything possible to maintain her position as a leader for her team, now her points per game reflects that.
After the loss to Liberty over the weekend, Johnson now leads the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game. The game in Lynchburg, Va. marked the first time this season that Johnson tallied 20-plus points.
Few can match the captain's workhorse mentality, with Johnson logging 40 minutes against the Flames and boasting the eighth-highest minutes per game ratio at 37.75.
BREE'S A BEAST
Sophomore guard
Bre'Lyn Snipes has become a trusty scorer for head coach
Octavia Blue's squad this year.
In her last four games, the Columbus, Ga. native has registered three games with 10-plus points; this includes her 11-point, five-rebound performance against in the Owls' ASUN opener on Saturday.
Snipes will need to play aggressively on the perimeter like she's done all season long, as Wednesday's opponents are a huge threat from beyond the arc.
SCOUTING FGCU
FGCU has a reputation of being a program that shoots 3-pointers; to be more accurate, the Eagles have attempted and made more 3-pointers than any other Division I team in the nation.
They are also a top 10 team in the following statistical categories: assist-turnover ratio (second - 1.53), assists per game (fifth - 19.4), scoring margin (second -Â 24.4) and scoring offense (seventh, 83.1).
Only two players in the country score more points per game than phenom Kierstan Bell's 24.1. Bell is the fiercest of FGCU's three-headed monster, also consisting of elite point guard Tishara Morehouse and Clemson transfer Kendall Spray.
NEXT GAME
The Owls head out on a three-game road trip, which begins with a Saturday matinée at Stetson on Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.
