Reuben McCoy Named Assistant Track and Field Coach

KENNESAW, Ga. – Reuben McCoy has been named assistant track and field coach, Kennesaw State director of track and field Cale McDaniel announced on Tuesday.
 
McCoy will coach the sprints, relays and long hurdles.
 
"I am beyond excited to have Reuben join our staff," McDaniel said. "He certainly brings a lot of knowledge and great energy to our program. He comes from some great programs and was highly recommended by many. This will be a huge boost for us and we are all excited to get to work."
 
McCoy comes to KSU after spending the 2019-21 seasons as an assistant coach at Syracuse. While at Syracuse, he assisted the coaches with daily operations of the program, recruiting and assisted with coaching the sprints and hurdle groups.
 
"I am excited to be a part of this historic program at Kennesaw State," McCoy said. "Thank you to Coach McDaniel, the KSU track and field coaching staff and to the KSU administration for presenting this opportunity to contribute the vision of the program's success."
 
McCoy spent the 2015-16 and 2017-18 seasons at Auburn. In 2017-18 he was an administrative assistant with the track program working with academics and helping to coordinate team meetings, functions, travel and housing. He worked as a volunteer coach in 2015-16 helping to setup practice and organize home meets. During his time at Auburn, he worked with several successful athletes, including Akeem Bloomfield, who was runner-up at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400m, and Nathan Allen, who garnered third-team All-America honors in the 400m. He also worked with Anthony Schwartz who ran a time of 6.59 seconds in the 60m and Shaun Shivers who qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a time of 20.99 in the 200m. He assisted with the Tiger's men's 4x100m relay team that posted a time of 39.79 seconds to also qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary round.  
 
His five-year competitive career boasts several appearances in the USATF final of the 400m hurdles and a personal best of 48.37 seconds. A 2005 Pan Am U20 gold medalist, McCoy was inducted into the South New Jersey Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
 
He competed at Auburn from 2004-2008. During his time with the Tigers, he was named MVP of the Penn Relays and won the gold medal at the SEC Outdoor Championships in the 400m hurdles in 2006.
 
McCoy graduated from Auburn with a degree in English and a minor in sociology in 2008.
