PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in 11
th place after the opening round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at True Blue Golf Club.
"The team played a lot of really solid golf today but the putts did not fall," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "If we can make a few more putts early we can build some confidence and momentum. The ball striking is supporting some low scores. We worked on a few things on the greens after the round and I feel good about the next couple of days. We are second in the field in pars so that is encouraging."
The Owls carded a 5-over par 293 in round one. Mercer leads the 17-team field after a 15-under 273 in round one.
Senior
Brock Healy recorded a 3-under par 69 to pace the Owls on Sunday. Healy made six birdies and nine pars during the round. He is tied for seventh.
Luke Phillips played his final seven holes at 2-under par and finished the round with a 1-over par 73. Phillips is tied for 31
st.
Takafumi Shimoji finished his opening round with a birdie to record a 3-over 75.
Newcomers
Lucas Mota and
Joseph Byrne are tied for 66
th at 4-over par 76.
The Owls will be paired with USC Upstate and Drexel in round two on Monday, September 13
