Tyler Tolve Selected by Atlanta Braves in MLB Draft

7/13/2021 3:03:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team's Tyler Tolve was selected 517th overall by the Atlanta Braves in the 17th round of the 2021 MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon, making the backstop the 71st draft pick in KSU baseball history.

The Marietta, Ga. native was head coach Mike Sansing's first choice at catcher in the 2021 season, making major contributions after his selection into the 2021 ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team back in February.

Still a sophomore after the shortened 2020 season, Tolve finished the season with a .319 batting average and a seven home runs; his 49 runs-batted-in was the second-best tally by an ASUN player in 2021. No player grabbed more total bases in conference play than the six-foot-two slugger.

The Sprayberry High School graduate barely stepped a foot wrong behind the plate, only committing three errors and assisting 31 putouts.

Tolve's stellar play earned him a place in the ASUN's All-Conference Second Team.

The Owl's selection makes him the fourth KSU player to be selected by the Braves in the program's history.
