Rhea and Williams Guide Owls on Wednesday at NCAA East Preliminary Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
 – Seven members of the Kennesaw State men's track and field team competed on the opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Wednesday at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
 
School Record
Jack Rhea cleared a career-best height of 5.35m (17'6.50") to finish fourth in the pole vault establishing a new school record. That mark advances him to Eugene, Oregon for the finals of the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, June 9. Rhea is the first Owl and first member of the ASUN to reach the finals in the pole vault.
 
Running Event Qualifiers for Friday's Quarterfinals
Paris Williams ran a personal-best time of 13.72 seconds to finish 11th and advance to the quarterfinals in the 110m hurdles.
 
Notable Performances
Kelvin Campbell landed a mark of 7.09m (23'3.25") to finish 38th in the long jump.
Tyler Blalock landed a toss of 18.13m (59'5.75") in the shot put to finish 20th closing out his stellar season.
Sparticus Griffin finished 46th in the 400m in a time of 48.99 seconds.
Malik Hussie (21.42 seconds) and Omar Diaz (21.61 seconds) took home 42nd and 45th in the 200m.
 
Four members of the KSU women's track and field team will compete on day two of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Thursday, May 27. 11 men will compete for KSU on Friday, May 28.
