Owls Finish Second at ASUN Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
 – The Kennesaw State men's track and field team finished competition at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday, May 15 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida. The Owls finished second scoring 183 points in the two-day meet. KSU scored 148 points on Saturday.

Decathlon (Through 10 events)
  • Ian Jackson won the decathlon scoring a career-best 6502 points.
  • He became the fourth different Owl to win the event.
  • Jackson won the pole vault (3.95m; 12'1.5") and the 1500m (5:05.05) on Saturday.
  • Jackson had personal-best decathlon performances in four of five events on Saturday and nine of the 10 events overall.
  • Quann Shears finished second scoring 6382 points.
  • Shears won the javelin throw landing a toss of 54.17m (177'8").

Medal Winners
  • Juan Cavazos II and Sultan Simms shared the silver medal in the high jump clearing 2.08m (6'9.75").
  • Reece Burton secured the silver medal in the javelin throw with a toss of 59.25m (194'4).
  • The Owls swept the podium in the triple jump as Qwazon Al-Khaliq took home the gold medal in a wind-aided leap of 15.70m (51'6.25). He joined on the podium by Karl Jõeäär who landed a career-best mark of 15.28m (50'1.75") and Isa Paschall who leapt 14.90m (48'10.75") to finish second and third.
  • Freshman Caleb Hartley landed a career-best toss of 49.26m (161'7") and grabbed third in the discus.
  • The 4x100m relay team of Jordan Hewing, Omar Diaz, Aaron Goodwin and Tyriq Hussie ran a time of 40.29 seconds to win the 4x100m. That time ranks third in ASUN Championship history.
  • Paris Williams won the 110m hurdles in a career-best time of 13.75 seconds to set the ASUN Championship record in the event. That time ranks 14th in the NCAA East Region this season.
  • Malik Hussie ran a personal-best time of 47.53 seconds in the 400m to finish second.
  • Hussie would take third in the 200m in a time of 20.87 seconds.
  • Ian Jackson returned to the track to win the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles after he posted a time of 53.94 seconds.
  • The men's 4x400m relay team of Malik Hussie, Sparticus Griffin, Omar Diaz and Cameron Johnson closed out the meet with a win in 3:12.70. That time ranks fourth all-time in ASUN Championship history.

Next Up
The NCAA Championships East Preliminaries will take place Wednesday, May 26 through Saturday, May 29 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. For each individual event contested at each of the Preliminary Round sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes based on TFRRS rankings will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event, the top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.
