AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Kennesaw State men's golf team is tied for 11^th place after 36 holes at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club.
 
"The team fought hard all day and overcame a difficult course setup," head coach Bryant Odom said. "I am proud of the patience and grit I saw today. We turned in a respectable day amongst some of the best teams in all of college golf. This experience will only make us better. Tomorrow will be a fun round and a chance to move up a few spots as we look forward to the ASUN Championship in a couple of weeks."
 
The Owls posted an 8-over par 296 in round one and a 2-over par 290 in round two and are tied with Augusta at 10-over par 586. No. 17 Pepperdine leads the 15-team field at 28-under par 558.
 
Takafumi Shimoji guided the Owls through the opening 36 holes on Saturday. The sophomore opened with an even-par round of 72 and finished the day with a 1-under par 71 in round two and is tied for 24^th at 1-under par 143. Shimoi rolled in 20 pars and nine birdies during the first two rounds.
 
Preston Topper is just two shots behind Shimoji in a tie for 36^th at 1-over par 145. Topper began his day with a 2-over par 74 in round one and finished with a 1-under par 71 in round two. The sophomore played his final 11 holes of the day at 2-under par with 10 pars and an eagle.
 
Freshman Luke Phillips recorded rounds of 4-over par 76 and even-par 72 and is in 52^nd at 4-over par 148. Phillips collected 24 pars in his first 36 holes.
 
Brady Keran (74-76) is tied for 57^th at 6-over par 150 while Brock Healy (77-76) is tied for 63^rd at 9-over par 153.
 
The Owls will finish up play at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on Sunday, April 4. KSU will be paired with South Carolina, College of Charleston and Army with tee times from 9:25-10:09 a.m.
