Owls Complete Sweep of Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, KY- The Kennesaw State softball team completed a three-game series sweep over Bellarmine after defeating them 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.
 
How it Happened
After a scoreless frame, the Owls scored two runs from a catcher's interference and a bases loaded walk from Christen Florence to take the lead 2-0.
 
KSU extended its lead 6-0 over the third, fourth and fifth frames thanks to an RBI triple to center field from Katie Greep, a two-run home run to center field from Lexi Solorzano and an RBI single to right field from Faith Alexander.
 
Bellarmine rallied late scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the Owls lead 6-5.
 
The Owls defense held strong leaving a Knight stranded in the bottom of the seventh to secure the three-game series sweep.
 
Peyton Elzey (2-7) secured the win after 5.1 innings of work, giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out one. Melanie Bennett collected her third save of the season after stepping in for relief for Elzey in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
Olivia Knies (0-3) suffered the loss giving up two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of work.
