ATHENS, Ga. ā The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in fourth place after the opening round of the ASUN Championship at the UGA Golf Course on Sunday.

"We got off to a rough start today but the guys fought back hard and finished strong," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "If we can carry some momentum into tomorrow and play the front nine better I know the team is eager for contention. We know the course well but have to excute better on the early scoring holes."

The Owls carded a 3-over par 287 in round one. No.13 Liberty leads the nine-team field after an 11-under 273 in round one.

Sophomore
Takafumi Shimoji guided the Owls on Sunday with a 1-under par 70. He rolled in 5 birdies and nine pars during his round.

Brady Keran is tied for 11
th after carding an even-par 71. The senior made 16 pars and one birdie. He opened the round with 14 consecutive pars.

Preston Topper and
Luke Phillips are tied for 16
th after they both shot rounds of 2-over par 73. Topper made 14 pars while Phillips shot a 2-under 34 on his final nine holes with seven pars and two birdies.

Brock Healy is tied for 34
th after posting a 5-over par 76.

The Owls will be paired with No.18 North Florida and North Alabama in round two on Monday, April 19.
