LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Kennesaw State baseball team (21-9, 9-2) won 3-1 against Bellarmine (10-21, 5-9) on Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Ky., thanks to a complete game thrown by Luke Torbert.
The Owls scored before their opponents for the ninth straight game, going 1-0 up in the first inning when Jesse Sherrill touched home plate after a throwing error on a fielder's choice off the bat of center fielder Alex Carballo.
Tyler Tolve couldn't be stopped Saturday at Knights Field, pulling a two-run homer over the right-field fence of the Bellarmine stadium for his sixth goner of the year. The catcher now sits alone in the team's lead for home runs, after Garrett Hodges tied him with the outfielder's fifth of the season on Friday. Tolve went four-for-four in the penultimate game of the season against the Knights, slapping three base knocks on top of his big fly.
After Jake Rice pitched a gem of his own yesterday, Torbert (5-1, 3.78 ERA) threw what is arguably the best game of his three-and-a-half year career. The junior threw Kennesaw State's first complete game since Brooks Buckler on May 12, 2018. The six-foot-two rightie didn't allow a run until a Bellarmine home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing the lone run on four hits and striking out seven.
The Owls look to Sunday for the series sweep, potentially their third sweep in a row and sixth straight win against Bellarmine. First pitch will take place at 1 p.m.
