TOP STORYLINES
» The Kennesaw State women's basketball team opens up their postseason campaign for a faceoff against the Jacksonville Dolphins on Wednesday afternoon at the KSU's Marietta Campus Gym. The game pits the No. 8 seed vs. No. 9, in a play-in game for an opportunity to face No. 1 FGCU in the playoff bracket. Jacksonville is the only team that the Owls did not get the chance to play in the regular season, as the two teams regular season series was canceled.
» KSU is coming off its second conference win of the season after a 78-62 victory against fourth-seeded Lipscomb. The final game of the regular season gave the team considerable momentum as the team enters the postseason. After the team's big win, Amani Johnson was named co-ASUN Player of the Week and Bre'Lyn Snipes picked up the ASUN Freshman of the Week.
» Jah'Che Whitfield continued her late-season renaissance against Lipscomb after reigniting against Stetson two weeks before. Last Friday's game against the Nashville, Tenn. school was Whitfield's third-straight game with a double-digit point tally. The Winthrop transfer led the team in scoring with 21 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Whitfield ended her season as the sixth-best rebounder, right between Jones in fifth and Gabi Legister in seventh.
» Kennesaw State is looking to win its third ASUN postseason game in its conference history and the Owls have experienced some postseason success against Florida teams. The team won its game against Stetson 67-59 in the opening round of the 2019 ASUN Tournament, advancing the team to the semifinals against FGCU. If the team beats Jacksonville in the play-in round, then the team will play No. 1 seed FGCU in the first round.
ACADEMIC AMANI
Amani Johnson was named in the ASUN All-Academic team for the second year in a row on Tuesday afternoon, after finishing the semester with a 3.83 GPA as an accounting major.
The point guard's scholastic prowess makes her dynamism on the court all the more impressive.
Johnson is coming off one of her most impressive games of the 2020-21 season, sporting a 20-point, eight-rebound, six-assist and five-steal statline in the 78-62 win against Lipscomb. The junior showed just how dangerous she can be from beyond the arch after shooting four-for-eight for a three-point field-goal percentage.
The Pennsylvanian captured her second-ever weekly honor on Monday after being named co-ASUN Player of the Week, her first since being named ASUN Freshman of the Week on Nov. 19, 2018.
The junior finished her season as the best playmaker of the conference, averaging 5.3 assists per game. Johnson also finished as a top-10 scorer and top-three stealer in the conference.
