CRAZY CARBALLO
Alex Carballo stamped his name on the scoresheet in a big way Wednesday night against the Georgia Bulldogs. He got the KSU offense going with a 3-run bomb over the right-field wall to earn a 3-2 lead for the home team. He also sent Brayden Eidson home from second base to tie the game up at 4, smacking a double over the UGA left fielder's head to start off a monumental eighth inning for the Owls. The center fielder reached base in every one of his four at-bats, walking twice and scoring four RBIs with his two hits.Â
RISE OF RICE AND RINE
Jake Rice has established himself as the ace of the Kennesaw State pitching staff, given the start in the first game of the series against UAB. The graduate starter earned a win last Saturday against Bryant University, letting up one hit and no runs as he threw an exceptional eight strikeouts in four innings pitched. The six-foot-one leftie will hope to maintain his perfect 0.00 ERA, as he returns to his hometown of Birmingham, Ala.Â
Jared Rine's three innings of two-hit ball earned his team the win against Georgia on Wednesday. He made up for one of those baserunners by forcing the next batter into a double play. Rine is making a reputation for himself as the first option for Head Coach Mike Sansing out of the bullpen, tying with Ryan Kennedy for the most innings pitched by a KSU hurler this season.Â
KILLER KOLBY
Kolby Johnson has shown just how cold-blooded he can be, as he saved his third game for Kennesaw State against the Bulldogs. The sophomore's ERA is perfect in his five innings of work. The Ball Ground, Ga. native's .211 opposition batting average is the third-lowest among KSU pitchers with at least five batters faced. The Gordon State transfer's trio of saves leads the ASUN Conference.Â
