ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team opened ASUN Conference play with a 6-1 loss to FGCU on Saturday at the USTA National Campus.
The neutral-site conference match that was scheduled to be played at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on the campus of Stetson was moved to the USTA Tennis Center because of rain.
"Unfortunately because of the circumstances I did not get to see much at all of today's match, much less coach it," Director of Tennis
Matt Emery said. "FGCU is the defending ASUN Conference champion and they played like it today. We had quite a few opportunities at some spots to pull away or finish that we did not take advantage of. We are going to learn from a few things but we are basically going to block this one out and get ready for UNF next weekend at home."
FGCU won the doubles point and five singles matches to take home the victory.
Sergio Ingles and
Seru Tezuka led Felipe Ramirez and Feliks Sakalauskas 5-3 on court one when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles,
Raul Garcia collected the Owls lone point of the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Randy Wilson on court four.
Kevin Patel,
Harvey Conway and
Seru Tezuka all won a set in their matches before falling in three sets.
The Owls will return home to face North Florida on the Betty Siegel Courts on Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
