KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over in-state rival Mercer on Sunday on the Betty Siegel Courts.
 
"The men did a great job of taking care of business today," Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "I loved how we closed out the doubles after getting up and not letting Mercer hang around. When we compete at every spot it is very difficult for teams to get four points against us. I love the confidence we are playing with headed into conference play next week."
 
KSU won the doubles point and picked up five singles wins to clinch the victory.
 
The Owls won the doubles point picking up win on courts two and three. Raul Garcia and Harvey Conway defeated Samuel Barrow and Michael Durham on court two 6-1. Kevin Patel and Sebastian Osorio downed Andrew Branicki and Danny Flynn 6-2 on court three to clinch the point. KSU and MU were tied on court one when the doubles point was clinched.
 
Harvey Conway extended the Owls lead to 2-0 with a straight set win over Andrew Branicki 6-4, 6-4 on court six. Raul Garcia added a victory on court three by a score of 6-4, 6-2 over Carver Arant 6-4, 6-2. Kevin Patel then defeated David Georgdaze 6-4, 6-4 on court four and pushed the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Owls. Seru Tezuka needed three sets but clinched the win with a 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 10-7 win over Michael Durham. Sebastian Osorio closed the match winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Hugo Lobo on court one.
 
The Owls will open ASUN Conference play on the road at Stetson at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 19.
