KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team split the first two games of a three-game ASUN conference series against Lipscomb.
GAME 1 | Kennesaw State 1, Lipscomb 0
After two scoreless frames,
Cheyanne Sales scored the one and only run of the game with a solo shot over the left field fence to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
The Bisons and the Owls both got runners on base but left them stranded in the fourth and fifth innings.
KSU looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to left field from
Lexi Solorzano and a single to the shortstop from
Raleigh Williams. Pinch runner
Hannah Thomason was on her way home when Lipscomb tagged her out before she could cross home plate.
Melanie Bennett (6-6) collected the win after going a complete game giving up no runs on two hits, striking out nine and walking two.
Breana Burke (6-3) suffered the loss in 5.2 innings of work, giving up one run on seven hits while striking out three batters.
GAME 2 | Kennesaw State 1, Lipscomb 5
The Bisons went to work early in the second game with a pair of sacrifice flies from Olivia Ward and Kamrie Rich to give them a 2-0 lead.
After a pair of scoreless frames KSU cut the Bison lead by one thanks to an RBI fly out to left field from
Brea Dickey to score
Katie Greep.
With nothing doing for either side through the next two innings, the Owls looked to spark something as
Katie Greep doubled through the left side. A passed ball allowed her to advance to third base with two outs on the board.
Cheyanne Sales walked putting runners one first and third. The Bisons kept it scoreless with an unassisted groundout at first base to end the inning leaving two runners stranded.
Lipscomb scored three runs on three hits and one error in the top of the seventh to secure a 5-1 victory over KSU. Maddie Simer (3-1) collected the win tossing 3.0 innings. Simer gave up one run, one hit while striking out one.
Peyton Elzey (0-3) suffered the loss on 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one.
