KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State baseball team's (9-5, 2-0) offense exploded in the sixth inning for five runs, leaning on the relief pitching of Jared Rine (2-0) to win 9-3 against Bellarmine (3-9, 0-2) in the Stillwell Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Garrett Hodges started off his impressive day with a single up the middle to score Alex Carballo and even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
There was a feeling of Déjà vu in the third inning, as the designated hitter hit another one-run single to center field to tie the game up at 2. The senior couldn't be stopped today, as he hit five-for-five in the conference matchup.
Jared Rine came into the game in the top of the sixth inning and started dealing. The sophomore was given the decision after throwing four innings of hitless, shutout baseball.
With the game at a 3-3 scoreline in the sixth inning, Jesse Sherrill continued his stellar season by keeping a double down the left-field line just fair; the play scored two runs as Jake Coro and Skylar McPhee crossed the plate.
The next batter up, Tyler Tolve smashed the seams off of a ball over the right-field wall to take a 7-3 lead for the home team. One-run base hits to right field from McPhee in the seventh inning and Norman in the eighth put the finishing touches on a 9-3 win for the Owls against Bellarmine.
The team will look to bring the brooms out tomorrow at 1 p.m., as KSU goes for the sweep against their ASUN counterparts.
