Eatonton, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in ninth place after the opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Club at Lake Oconee on Friday.

"Today was one of those team rounds where we left a lot of shots on the course and probably shot as high as we could," head coach Bryant Odom said. "We need to clean up our play on the par-3s so we can maintain some momentum throughout the round. Our best golf is ahead this weekend if we can do that."

The Owls recorded a 7-over par 295 in the opening round. No. 46 Georgia Tech leads the field of 16 at 5-under par 283.

Freshman Luke Phillips and sophomore Preston Topper tied for the Owls low round of the day as both carded rounds of 1-over par 73 and are tied for 28th. The two combined to make 19 pars and four birdies during their opening rounds.

Brady Keran collected 12 pars on the way to a 2-over par 74. Keran is tied for 34th.

Brock Healy is tied for 43rd after a 3-over par 75. Healy shot even-par 36 on the front nine.

Takafumi Shimoji is tied for 73rd after a 7-over par 79.

Playing as individuals this weekend, Conner Rostowsky carded a 3-over par 75 while Justin Kim shot 12-over par 84. Rostowsky is tied for 43 while Kim is tied for 84th.
