Owls Sit in Second Place After First Day of ASUN Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va.-
The Kennesaw State men's and women's track and field teams sit in second place after day one of the ASUN Indoor Championships on Friday.

Men's Heptathlon (Through four events)
  • Quann Shears is in first place with 2885 points.
  • Shears posted four personal-best performances on Friday.
  • Ian Jackson is in fourth with 2742 points.
  • Jackson had personal-best performances in the shot put and long jump on Friday. 
 
Women's Pentathlon (Completed)  
School Record Performances  
  • Jack Rhea cleared 5.21m (17'1") to win the men's pole vault.
  • Lindsay Billings raced to a time of 9:30.38 to win the women's 3000m. She broke the previous school record by nearly 15 seconds.
  • Billing's and Rhea's marks also were new ASUN Indoor Championship records.
  • The women's distance medley relay team of Sarah Hendrick, Britiney Johnson, Madigan Wallace and Rachel Van Amburgh ran a time of 11:46.47 to take second in the distance medley relay.

  • Jasmine Akins landed a jump of 5.81m (19'0.75") and Jozalyn Albright had a mark of 5.76m (18'10.75") to finish second and third in the long jump.
  • Javon Joyner had an indoor career-best toss of 13.69m (44'11") in the shot put to finish third.

On the men's team's performance today …
"The men came out today and immediately got it going in the combined events and then kept banging away with huge efforts by Tyler Blalock, Sultan Simms and Jack Rhea. The men are positioned well with a lot of races to go."
 
On the women' team's performance today …
"The women's team got great efforts from Lindsay Billings and Katie Meyer in the 3K to start the day. It seemed like there were great performances one after another. We finished the evening breaking the school record in the distance medley relay and have a lot of opportunities to score tomorrow."

The Owls will finish competition at the ASUN Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 27.
