HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Sophomore
Preston Topper led the Kennesaw State men's golf team through the opening 36 holes at the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate at Palmetto Hall on the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall Golf and Country Club.
"We are near the top of the fielded in birdies but are counting to many high scores to maintain contention," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "If we can focus on improving on the par 5's tomorrow and clean up some of the big mistakes we will run up the leaderboard. Tomorrow should be fun."
The Owls are in seventh place at 16-over par 592 after carding a pair of 8-over par rounds of 296
Topper recorded rounds of 68-72 and is tied for the lead at 4-under par 140. He rolled in five birdies and eight pars during his opening round. He finished his second round making six consecutive pars.
"Preston played some very steady golf today and he is setup well for a run at the medalist honor," Odom said.
Brady Keran is tied for 11
th at 2-over par 146. Keran opened the day with a 2-over par 74 and closed with an even-par 72. He made 25 pars and five birdies during the opening 36 holes of the tournament.
Brock Healy bounced back from an 8-over par 80 in round one to shoot 1-over par 73 in the second round. Healy played his final 13 holes of the day at 2-under par.
Justin Kim is tied for 60
th at 11-over par 155 while
Conner Rostowsky is tied for 73
rd at 15-over par 159.
The Owls will conclude play at the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate at Palmetto Hall on Tuesday, February 23 at 8:30 a.m.
