THE STORYLINE

COACH OCTAVIA BLUE QUOTES
On the team's comeback win…
"We played with a lot of energy and we shared the ball. To get Alexis Poole back on the floor is really huge for us, she just gets so much attention. She's able to score on the low block, which opens the outside for everyone else. Really happy with our defensive effort and when we play good defense, it translates to the offensive end."
On the team's 11-day hiatus…
"We've got to keep our level of intensity up. One thing I talked to the team about was playing for 40 minutes, and we went out and played 45. I was really happy with our effort tonight."
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was another competitive start for Kennesaw State, who took its first lead at 7-6 thanks to an and-one layup from Poole.
Johnson would set the tone for the rest of her game with two minutes left in the opening quarter, taking her steal all the way to the basket for an easy layup.
The first quarter would end with the Paladins leading 17-14, and Poole possessing an early nine points.
Johnson started the second quarter off right, nailing a pullup shot from beyond the arc to cut the Furman advantage to 17-16. The pullup 3-pointer has become a signature of the senior point guard.
Amaris Baker followed in Johnson's footsteps in more ways than one, putting up her captain's assist for a trey of her own.
After letting the intensity slip in favor of Furman, the Owls finished the half off with two layups from Stacie Jones and Jodi Mullins.
The third quarter was a quiet one for both teams, with the Paladins outscoring the hosts 10-6 in the period. The black and gold were down 41-30 with 3:40 left in the quarter, but there was an overwhelming feeling in the Convocation Center that the team wasn't finished yet.
The fourth quarter played out very differently however, with the Owls outdoing their third-quarter tally with an 8-0 run in the first 1:34.
Jah'Che Whitfield exhibited the team's fight perfectly with an effort at the shot-clock buzzer, swishing a 3-pointer to minimize the Greenville, S.C. team's advantage to 41-34.
The skills of Bre'Lyn Snipes came to shine in the fourth quarter, with her trifecta bringing the Owls to within two.
Jones brought the game around full circle, tying it up at 4:32 off of a jumper.
It was back and forth in the dying minutes of regulation, but Coach Blue's squad found themselves down three points with seven seconds left.
Blue put the ball in the hands of Johnson, who caused a Convocation Center eruption with a last-second 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
There was no looking back for the Owls, who used free throws and lockdown defense to earn a 70-59 win; Furman was held to only two points in the extra five minutes.
