CLEMSON, S.C. – The Kennesaw State track and field teams opened the indoor portion of the 2021-22 at the Clemson Opener inside the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex on Friday.
 
Event Wins

• Jasmine Akins posted a mark of 6.03m (19'9.50") to win the women's long jump.
• Freshman Kaelen Mitchell recorded a leap of 7.20m (23'7.50") to win the men's long jump.
• Tyler Blalock finished atop the men's shot put standings with a toss of 18.46m (60'6.75").
• Eriana Sanford won the women's shot put with a toss of 13.24m (43'5.25").

 
 
 Men's Top Performances

• Juan Cavazos II was runner-up in the high jump after he cleared 1.98m (6'6").
• Caleb Hartley landed a toss of 17.73m (58'2") and Anthony Harrison added a mark of 16.40m (53'9.75") to finish second and third respectively in the shot put.
• Kelvin Campbell jumped 7.02m (23'2.50") to secure third in the long jump.
• Lamar Gordon finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.51m (54'2").
• Isaiah Ellis took seventh in the 60m hurdles in 8.18 seconds.
• Tyriq Hussie ran a time of 34.21 seconds to take sixth in the 300m.
• Henry Plowden finished sixth in the 3k with a time of 9:10.86.
• Justin Campbell recorded a mark of 14.23m (46'8.25") and finished fourth in the triple jump.
• Stephen Smith cleared 4.55m (14'11") in the pole vault to finish fourth.
• The men's 4x400m relay team of Tyriq Hussie, Xavier Parris, Cameron Smith and Sparticus Griffin ran 3:18.74 to finish third.

 
 
 Women's Top Performances
 

• Mollie Speights and Jania Joseph both cleared 1.68m (5'6") and tied for fourth in the high jump.
• Jada Smith got over the bar at 3.60m (11'9.75") and finished second in the pole vault.
• Kali Terza landed a toss of 18.30m (60'0.50") and Eriana Sanford added a mark of 16.09m (52'09.50") to finish second and fifth respectively in the weight throw.

"It was a lot of fun getting back into the swing of things at Clemson and it was nice to see four event wins out of Eriana Sanford, Jasmine Akins, Tyler Blalock, Kaelen Mitchell. While we certainly have a lot of work to do, I think this group came out and competed really well today and I look forward to getting back to full strength in January."
