COACH OCTAVIA BLUE QUOTES
On defending home court…
"We've got to protect our home court. We've got to take our advantage at home, because we know it's going to be tougher on the road. We've got a couple days to get in the lab. We've got to pick up our defensive intensity; we've got to rebound and box out better. We'll be better next time we show."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Owls got off to another fine start with points from Gabi Legister and Jah'Che Whitfield in the paint.
With 2:26 left in the first quarter, two free throws brought Hofstra even with KSU at 10-10; Whitfield was able to shoot the Owls back into the lead with a trifecta.
The first quarter ended with the hosts leading 17-14, with Whitfield shooting three-for-four from the field for seven points.
The second quarter strained the necks of the Convocation Center fans with its back-and-forth nature. It was Alexis Poole doing the bulk of the work for her team, racking up six points and a steal in the 10-minute period.
The scoreline at halftime reflected how even the battle was at the time, with both teams going to the locker room tied at 29.
The Owls came out of the tunnel and began to find their groove; Bre'Lyn Snipes was working her way into the game with three layups, scoring six of Kennesaw State's first eight points in the second half.
A pull-up trey from Amani Johnson gave the black and gold its biggest lead of the matchup at 42-36, but would only have a 45-42 advantage going into the fourth and final quarter.
The Pride were unstoppable in the fourth quarter, shooting 12-for-14 from the field and three-for-three from beyond the arc.
The New York team would outscore Kennesaw State 30-12 in the final 10 minutes, with Hofstra leaving Georgia with a 72-57 win.
