ORLANDO, Fla. - Kennesaw State's freshman
Lara Jecnik is off to an impressive start, as the women's golf team started out its spring campaign Sunday at the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
"We fought hard today," Interim head coach
Eric Hodgson said. "Our front nine was really steady with some good birdies. When we got to the back nine, the wind picked up and we made a few mistakes."
The Owls are tied for 11
th place with Iowa State after Sundays first round in a strong field that consists of three nationally ranked teams. KSU posted a collective 3-over par 291 and were led by
Tai Anudit. Anudit recorded a 3-under par 69 and is tied for sixth. She made an eagle and three birdies on her opening round.
Lara Jecnik shot a 1-over par 73 in a notable debut round for the Slovenian native. She rolled in two birdies and 14 pars and is tied for 45
th.
Alizee Vidal recorded three birdies and is tied for 57
th after she posted a 2-over par for 74.
Tori Owens is tied for 62
nd after a 3-over par 75 and
Bella Kil is tied for 81
st at 6-over par 78.
"After almost a year off from tournaments, some rust is sure to build and will take some time to shake off. I'm really encouraged with the hard work and dedication these girls show day in and day out." Hodgson said. "We will build on today's round and look to move up the leaderboard tomorrow."
Teams will begin the second round tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. KSU is scheduled at 8:40 a.m. off the 10th hole.
