Owls Knock Off Idaho State to Complete 4-1 Weekend in Colorado

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Kennesaw State scored in every inning to give the Owls a 10-2 victory over Idaho State in the finale of the Colorado State Classic at Ram Field. 

The Owls (21-4) got the offense going early. Brea Dickey led off the bottom half of the first with an infield single to short. Jade Lee put the first run on the board with an RBI double to left field. With the bases loaded, Katie Greep cleared the bases with an RBI double to left center to give the Owls a 4-0 lead.  

Idaho State (7-14) answered back in the top of the second with a solo homerun to left field to cut the deficit to three.

After a two-out walk by Lexi Solorzano in the bottom of the second, Cheyanne Sales hit a two-run homerun to right center to add to the KSU lead.  

Taylor Cates added a run in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun to right center.  

The Bengals picked up a run in the top of the fourth, cutting the Owl lead to 7-2. 

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Greep was hit by a pitch to add another run to give her four RBI on the day. Kylie Vannavong reached on a fielding error to drive in a run and put the score at 9-2.  

In the fifth inning, Faith Alexander reached on an infield single to give the Owls a baserunner. Dickey collected her fourth hit of the game to put runners on second and first with no outs. With the bases loaded, Greep singled through the left side to bring in the 10th run of the game and give the Owls a 4-1 record for the weekend in Fort Collins. 

Melanie Bennett picked up the win for KSU. She gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits, three walks and struck out two over five innings of work. Bennett picked up three wins this weekend improving her record to 6-3.  

NEXT UP 

The Owls will have the week off before heading down to Ft. Meyers, Fla. to open ASUN conference play against FGCU.
