Opelika, Ala. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team opened play at the Tiger Invitational on Sunday at the Grand National Lake Course.

"This was not how we wanted to begin the spring but I know the effort and attitude is in the right place with this team,"  Head Coach Bryant Odom said. "Our ability in taking advantage of the good shots and scoring holes is not where it needs to be. We just did not score well today when the opportunity was there and then the bad holes were sprinkled in. It was hard to gain momentum in the round. Our best golf is ahead of us and it is not as far as it may appear."

The Owls shot a 26-over par 314 in the opening round, which places them in 19th of 20 teams participating in the event. KSU will look to bounce back, as the second round of the tournament begins tomorrow morning. The Tiger Invitational will conclude Tuesday evening with the third and final round.

Connor Coffee led the Owls on Saturday. He carded a 3-under 75 in his opening round with four birdies and nine pars. His first-day form finds him in a tie for 45th place.

Brady Keran carded a 7-over par 79, which finds him in a tie for 84th place. One of the golfers that share his placement is teammate Takafumi Shimoji, who had one birdie and 11 pars.

Brock Healy and Preston Topper also find themselves both in a tie for 92nd place, after shooting a 9-over 81 on the day.

The Owls will continue play with the second round of the Tiger Invitational tomorrow with a shotgun start at 7:50 a.m. KSU will be paired with Southern Miss and Mercer.
