Owls Set for Rematch with Liberty in ASUN Tournament

KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Kennesaw State women's basketball team earned the No. 6 seed in the 2020 ASUN Tournament and travels to No. 3 seed Liberty Saturday afternoon in the opening round.

Top Storylines
• The Owls are looking for their third ASUN Tournament victory in the last four years after knocking out No. 2 seed Stetson a year ago and defeating No. 5 seed NJIT in 2017. 

• KSU is 3-10 all time in its 10-year history playing in the ASUN Tournament, while Liberty is in its second year in the league after advancing to the championship game last season.

• Liberty is 4-0 in the all-time series after sweeping both games this season. The Flames secured a 10-point win at home on Feb. 3 and needed a 6-0 run in the final minutes to escape with a 76-70 win at KSU on March 2. 

• Kennesaw State is playing the same team in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2012-13 season when it closed the regular season at FGCU and turned around four days later to play the Eagles in the opening round of the ASUN Tournament.

• KSU's victory against NJIT on Feb. 29 marked the first time during the four-year tenure of head coach Agnus Berenato that six Owls scored in double figures. Alexis Poole led the way with 18 points in the win.

• Alexis Poole's remarkable regular season ended with a career-high 29 points on Monday against Liberty to give her the ASUN Conference regular season scoring title at 17.1 points per game. She also scored a league-best 18.5 points per game in ASUN games.

• Amani Johnson leads the ASUN in minutes played per game, ranks second in assists per game, second in steals per game and ninth in points per contest. She is the only player in the league rank in the top-10 in all four categories.

• Kennesaw State has taken advantage of its trips to the free-throw line this season. The Owls rank 15th in the country from the line and second in the ASUN at 77.7 percent from the charity stripe.

• During the summer, it was announced that the Owls were ranked No. 20 in the WBCA Academic rankings. The Owls were the sole program in the ASUN to receive the honor as well as the only program in the state of Georgia to be recognized on the list. KSU ended the season with a 3.54 GPA.

• This past fall, the team achieved a GPA of 3.37, as all 10 student-athletes were above a 3.0 GPA with four student-athletes on the Dean's list.

Noting Liberty
• Liberty finished tied for second in the ASUN standings and holds the longest current winning streak in the league at six games.

• The Flames are led by three double-digit scorers, including Keyen Green who leads the league in offensive rebounds.

• Asia Todd scored a team-high 24 points against the Owls on March 2, going 3-of-5 from long range and 9-of-14 from the field.

• Liberty is the top rebounding team in the ASUN, posting a +6.8 rebounding margin to rank No. 1 in the league.

• In just their second year in the conference, the Flames have a 21-11 record in league play and have beaten seven of the other eight programs in the ASUN.

• Liberty is 2-1 all-time in the ASUN Tournament, advancing to the championship game last year, before falling to FGCU. The Flames are 2-0 in ASUN Tournament home games.
